Alfalfa for Wildlife Food Plots:
Alfalfa is a cool season perennial legume that is a favorite summer long forage for deer and turkeys. Alfalfa is high in protein and produces tons of high quality forage for wildlife. These plantings also attract beneficial insects for upland game birds and turkeys. Alfalfa is also an excellent companion crop for clover. Alfalfa is suited for a wide range of soils but does best on fertile well-drained sites. Preferred pH is 6.5.

Planting Alfalfa Seed:
Plant in the Spring after danger of frost or in early Fall. Cover seeds 1/4 inch. Fertilize and lime according to soil test. Plant 15 lbs. to 20 lbs. per acre.
